Facelift

Back

When facial problem areas are pronounced – deep creases between the nose and mouth, a slack jawline, folds of skin and fatty deposits around the neck, loose facial muscles – a facelift is often recommended.

Process: Incisions are made above the hairline and extend in a natural line in front of the ear. Sometimes if there needs to be some reshaping in the neck area, another small incision is made just under the chin. The skin is then separated from the fat and muscular tissue below the surface. After fatty material is trimmed or suctioned the muscles are tightened improving the facial contours. The skin is then pulled back and any excess is removed. The suture lines are left inconspicuously in the hairline and natural skin folds.

Recovery: During some of your recuperation, you will want to keep your head elevated to help reduce some of the swelling. There is usually little discomfort following a facelift alone. Most patients complain of tightness around the neck where the muscle tightening occurred. The sutures are removed about 5 days after surgery. The remainder are removed 11 or 12 days post-operatively. You may experience numbness in the scalp area as a result of your incisions but this will lessen over the next few months. After about 10-14 days, most patients return to work. You will have scars in your hairline and the natural creases of the face that will fade and become less noticeable with time.

Results: A facelift can turn the clock back 10 to 15 years on your appearance. With proper maintenance and care, the beautiful benefits of the surgery can last for years to come.
